What a curve ball. Instead of assuming it was Google that was looking to purchase the amazingly popular streaming platform ‘Twitch’ several months ago. We find out that today it will be in fact, Amazon that just may come out purchasing Twitch for roughly a billion dollars or $1,000,000,000.
As most of you already know. Twitch is by far the most popular gaming streaming platform for gamers. Many will claim it’s the ESPN for e-sports or video games. Which I disagree, I see Twitch more as a cable provider (Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner, AT&T, and etc) who supports a wide variety of networks (games) with each network/game supporting their shows/streamers.
As of November, 2013 comScore rated Twitch as the largest video site in the video games category. Twitch claims to bring in over 55 million visitors per month and as of February 2014, Twitch reported that for the first it has reached 1 million active broadcasters.
What does this mean for us streamers and viewers? Well, I thin it’s too early to tell. However, I don’t think it will be as bad as most will make it out to be.
